we had the biggest downpour and thunderstorm yesterday. Ken and I both got wet wet wet putting the cover on his car. afterwards, we huddled down and once it cleared up (No Tornado for us) we ordered some food. I felt like utter crap, so I snuggled down on the futon in his room, took some Nyquil and was out cold after 2 episodes of Mythbusters on Netflix. Woke up this morning still on the futon. That was about 3 hours ago. ken is still snoring in the bedroom, so I guess he played WoW again until near exhaustion. Make that night 4 out of 5 for this week.... being in the same time zone as all his WoW buddies so is fatal.... Am still under the weather, but at least the cough stopped being so painful. Darn the snot and slime that has taken over my body. Time for another slooooooow shower. Which means, yes, they still haven't set a date to repair what ever is wrong with our hot water upstairs. Hopefully they won't have to rip out pipes all over the place when they do...

Mmm, what you say? Mm, that you only meant well? Well, of course you did.
Mmm, what you say? Mm, that it's all for the best? Ah of course it is.
Mmm, what you say? Mm, that it's just what we need? And you decided this.
Mmm what you say? What did she say?
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth. Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs. Speak no feeling, no I dont believe you. You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.
Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth. Mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut-outs. Speak no feeling, no I don't believe you. You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.
You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit. You don't care a bit.
You don't care a bit.
Don't read into the song choices TOO much. It's what I am listening to at the time. Now...whether or not that song is there, randomly, on my WinAmp playlist of over 300 gigs of music, or if I happening to be listening to it because I sought it out specifically...well, you figure that one out. I'm giving you everything else, and a guy has to have SOME secrets, yeah? Anyway, the song is Hide And Seek by Imogen Heap. It's another of those Songs that screws with me a bit.
Well, dammit. I tried, but that confession is going to have to wait, I guess. I just erased quite a lot fo text. Mainly because I'm not sure how to put it in such a way that won't make all of you look at me...differently.
No. I'm not dying, though it sure ain't fer lack of trying.
I'm not gay either, so, Pat, put it away.
Anyway, moving on. I find it difficult for me to write, lately, which is...not good. I like writing. I do. But despite the acute depression and disconnection I'm currently dealing with, I cannot seem to channel that into wordsmithing. Used to be ale to, can't anymore. Still can't sleep, and that's getting to be more and more of a problem, as I am beginning to lose lrge chunks of my short term memory. For instance, I have no idea how I made money at work today, but I know I did.
Granted, I always do. Heh. S'why my boss tolerates my insanity, bless him. I put the Cash in the Pocket.
But I don't...really remember today. At all. Or Friday. Or Thursday. Now, having looked up sleeping crap on Google...yay google...I am at least relieved to know that my massive memory loss, or rather, inability to retain, is a direct effect of me not sleeping. So, if I can fix the lack of sleep, I can fix the mindlessness.
Plus, well...I'm bored. I've memorized my ceiling. I wouldn't mind relearning the insides of my eyelids.
So, what did I do today...woke, went to work, came home, ate. Ran around the house like a lunatic with Achilles. Worked on this, and some art. Lord only knows when I will lay down.
We all suffer for our art.
I've decided I want cookies. Sadly, I have none. At all. I could make some, but that involves a level of effort I cannot see myself putting into anything at this point. Seriously. My ass is a part of this couch.
Other than that...yeah, iI got nuthin'.
You kids have a good one.

Goodbye my little rainbow.

I'm going to tell you a story, and although, like all good stories, there are some sad parts, it is a happy story. You have to trust me.
There was a cat. She was desperate and doomed, as were her children. One day she was kidnapped and her children taken away. The catmother never got over this, but she lived warm and clean and well fed and was no longer desperate nor doomed, though she was always a bit sad and a bit afraid. One day she died, but her children, far from desperate, far from doomed lived wonderful, beautiful lives because she had found for them everything a catmother could ever hope to give her children, and much more.

| The Cat Corner |
[17 Jul 2009|10:41am] |
this whole post is "littered" with links. Click on anything that is underlined or on any of the pictures!
On Tuesday I dropped Ken off at work and then stopped by The Cat Corner in Hampton, VA, a No Kill/ Non Profit cat shelter.
I ran across a little card that asked for volunteers when we dropped off Tinkerbell at the vet last month. I had called right before the 4th of July but hadn't received a call back yet, so I decided to just show up and help with whatever was needed.
Coincidentally, they were short on people on Tuesday, so I stayed until about 2pm after I filled out my volunteer application and was properly greeted by Blackie , the "office" cat.

Most of the morning was spent learning the lay and where the things are, cleaning kitty cages and litter boxes, replenishing food and water bowls and washing down dirty boxes. Later on I spent some time socializing with some of the kittens, working on getting them used to humans so that they'll be able to find a good home later on.
I especially enjoyed my time with all the new tiny kittens that still cluster around their mommy Kendel, and with the bigger, weened off kittens like Nathan, Colby and Heidi.

Nathan was finally able to go to his (hopefully) forever home. His new family has been waiting anxiously for him to be big enough to come home with them.
I went back to The Cat Corner on Thursday to help out. The morning was spent washing the food dishes from the kitties breakfast and the water/dry food bowls that needed a wash. I left at around 11:30am to hang out with Ken for his lunch break. By 12:30 I was back and helped Marilyn with everything that was left to do. Giving out some medication, like eye drops for little Howie who has pink eye, cleaning up some more, and hanging out with the kittens. We also returned most of the cats to their cages. We spent a good 10min looking for Bootsy, who was asleep in a cubby hole right behind Ginger's cage. Ginger is still mostly feral, so she hisses and spits at everyone getting to close to her cage. I also sat down and spent some quiet time bonding with Little Midnight and stopped by Lenny and Laurel's cage for some smooching.
At around 3pm we got the second round of wet food ready for everyone. We picked up the last set of dishes, made sure everyone had food and water enough, went outside to feed the outside kitties, and closed up at around 3:30pm. But not before I spontaneously became the sponsor for both Lenny and Laurel.

These two just tuck on my heart strings. Lenny is a special needs cat, he has tremors and is lovingly called a "bobber". The more exited he gets the more he bobs. He is the sweetest big baby and despite being abandoned loves humans. Laurel came from the same rescue and has taken over care for Lenny. She helps him groom, stays close for comfort, and sometimes even assists him while walking around.
I'll be volunteering at The Cat Corner on Tuesday and Thursdays from now on. Looking forward to next Tuesday!
A cpl more pictures I took on Thursday:

One day you'll hold your head So dark and withered dead Wish you were here A simple task to feed Of unforgiven greed Wish you were here
I found out how to be perfect for you my dear While I was bumping around Bumping around
You dont wanna to face me when you You dont wanna to make me when you You dont wanna to take me when you
You dont wanna to face me when you You dont wanna to make me when you You dont wanna to take me when you
Fail
Ah yes, Tricky's You don't wanna. It' labeled as hiphop, and yet I hear it played in goth clubs. Which, considering it's lyrical content...well, it's pretty obvious as to why. Plus, it's a fantastic song to dance to, and to watch others dance to. You can do a variety of different kinds of dances to it, from agressive, to slow, to simple...hell, it REALLY goes well served with a glass of a Liquid.
Some will get that, others will need an explination.
So! Anyway!
What have I done, what have I accomplished today...well, was told that my police report will 'Take as long as it takes'. Oi. So, while paperwork is pushed through, I am annoyingly being made to wait in the wings.
Ah well. Patience is it's own virtue, I suppose, good things come, blahblahblah insert-inspiring-hogwash-here.
WASH. Not Warts. Hog WASH.
I cleaned. Which is actually fun. And ate stew. Goooood stew. And enjoyed a day where Achilles was actually quite well behaved, as opposed to his usual OHMYGODI'MAPUPPYANDICAN'TSTOPRUNNINGAROUNDINCIRCLESANDCRASHINGINTOTHINGS! antics.
Apologies to anyones screen whom I broke.
It's really funny when he tries to take off running in the house. See, it's all-wooden floors here. So, for about a half a second, he is literally running in place, Acme Road Runner style. It's hilarious.
Also. Something else that I was ging to put into my last entry, but did not...I have discovered The Truth. The real Secret.
I know why Goths hate Emo's.
See, first, let's look at Goths:
-Dress in black. -Come out at Night. -Obsessed with poisonus things. -Often practice ineffective martial arts (Thanks Kuma!). -Also obsessed with secret societies, and hiding thier identities.
Clearly, Goths are Ninja's.
Now, an equally critical look at Emo's:
-Awful fashion sense. -Smell funny. -Drink a LOT of alchohol. -Travel in packs. -Often cannot see out of one eye.
Clearly, Emos are Pirates.
And thus, it is explained. Now, you can rest easy.
And yes, this is a deviation from my typical stance on the Emo 'movement'. I do not believe it to be seperate from Goths. They are retarded Babybats. That's it. That's all. Just because there's a lot more of them than there used to be...doesn't mean they get thier own label. Get back on the bus, sit down, and...well, you know the rest.

You people are great, shining beams of light. Yesterday I got a surprised email from City Kitties their email box was flooded, in the last 24 hours, more than $600 has poured in. Check out Ike, the first kitty you all helped because of YOU he was able to get medical treatment and is now looking for a home. Ike loves people and has a chance at a wonderful life with a wonderful person. Thank YOU.
As if she knew our time was limited, Momcat slept in the bed with us Wednesday night -- taking over Trillian's pillow and dividing the bed exactly in half-- one half for her, the other for us -- we were welcome to stay with her as long as that line was not crossed. We squeezed in and she stayed there the whole night. Yesterday morning she investigated the New Favorite Cat Spot on Earth: the newly screened in porch. I figured that was probably about the best place for her to be, so she spent last night out there, hanging with Roswell and eating canned food. We moved a litter box out there (which trillian_stars noted that she was spending a lot of time sitting in -- typical momcat.)
I've been spending some time out there working -- she doesn't seem to mind if I'm out there, as long as I promise not to get too close.
We're waiting for the vet to call back. If her last day on Earth is spent on the porch, sniffing the air and watching the birds, then she's spent it in the way all the other cats in the house would choose to.

You people make me proud. Thank you. I'm reminded of the last scene in Camelot....
“One of what we all are, Pelly. Less than a drop in the great blue motion of the sunlit sea. But it seems that some of the drops sparkle, Pelly. Some of them do sparkle!"
You sparkle.

About a year of so ago I made an offer in this comm and I thought I would repost it again. I have an online book business and if you would like me to include information about your convention in a SF/F book order that is going to the state your convention is in just mail me some fliers. I am not interested in printing out a stack of flier so do not ask me to just print out a stack from a file off your website. A few conventions took me up on the offer and I usually also add some fliers to the freebee table at any cons I am selling books at. If you are interested in this just drop me a note at info (at) themissingvolume.com and I can get you a mailing address.

You'd give it We'd take it You'd build it We'd break it You silently erase it You'd feel it
We fake it
It's my red star (steal it) It's my red star (can't let go) It's my red star (conceal it) It's my red star
Oh no...
Excerpt from Red Star, by Birthday Massacre. I have sort of a love/hate relationship with this song, and the memories it brings up. But it is a nice song, and the girls voice is lovely, and thus, it is worthy of inclusion.
Had a good day, ish. Made some headway in my brain, and that's good. Made stew, and that was good as well. I love beef stew. It's comfort food, and as the doc says, apparently, comfort=stew. Stewing in my own comfort? Comforting my stew? Who knows.
Went and saw Harry Potter today...see, I've promised Vixen I would take her to all the Potter films, and even though things between us are not...as they were...I find that keeping my promises is a healthy thing. Thus, I'm doing it.
Even though I am...not a fan. heh.
I realllly love stew.
Also, I am playing WoW again. No all that fervently, it's...just not somehting I am that into. But I do enjoy playing with friends, and having my own Guild where only friends are members is good fun.
So, if you find yourself on WoW, on the Cenarion Circle serve, Horde side...send a msg to Nixot, Nihilate, or Graanid. Those are my C's.
I refuse to call them toon's. I hate that expression.
I wonder if I will sleep again tonight. I slept last night. It was nice. I want to sleep, but here I sit at one am...and not even a little sleepy. This sucks.
Oh well, it gives me more time to learn Flash, and try to find a work around for this damnable self-writing text issue.
Mm, stew. Achilles got some stew tonight, on his food. He DEVOURED it, seriously, I'm surprised he didn't choke. But he liked it so much he licked the bowl clean. He loives his food almost as much as I love mine, and he is always so happy to eat. Growing boy, I guess.
Somehting else a dear friend said to me is sticking in the forefront of my brain.
Possibly because of the song I chose tonight. Who knows.
"The most amazing star will not go undiscovered for long. And perhaps the first one to see it and not claim it will have to deal with that."
Wise, wise, wise, wise words. Lissten to them, kids.

After a long relaxing day and much excitement, I got to clean up and witness projectile vomit. No, not on any movie set but in my very own living room.
Now, before you think "oh gee, poor you", I actually really dig this part of parenthood. This is the part where I actually get to take care of another human being in a much more intimate and vulnerable sense. I'm already responsible for raising and shaping this young mind into a responsible and caring human being but this is different. I get to truly in every sense "be there" for this little person.
Joe Rogan said it best when he said "Making a human is a truly surreal experience. It’s so titanically bizarre that I always compare it to a psychedelic trip, in that if it hasn’t happened to you there’s almost no way that I can accurately express to you what it’s like. You just have to experience it."
Yeah, even though I have a squeamish stomach, I'm more than happy to mop the floor my housekeeper did just hours ago, hold a smelly, tiny human and reassure her this will pass.
People have asked me if I miss handling models and dealing with their ever changing lives. No, I don't. Any why would I? I have two of the most beautiful young women-to-be under my roof and they take far more responsibilty for their actions with grace and maturity than I have seen any model do in a very, very long time.Motherhood isn't for everyone, and I'm very glad for that
